Don't Wait Until the End of the Year to Start Preparing

If your end-of-year exams seem a long way away, now is actually the perfect time to start preparing.

I see it every year with students: they leave revision until the final few weeks, realise how much they need to remember, and then try to cram everything in at once.

My advice? Don't wait. Start small now.

Start building your quote tables

Don't just memorise quotes - make sure you understand the technique, meaning and significance behind them.

Write short practice paragraphs rather than always attempting a full essay. One paragraph gives you the opportunity to focus on improving your analysis, evidence or structure. Even better, get feedback and use it in your next paragraph.

QUOTE → TECHNIQUE → MEANING → SIGNIFICANCE

QUOTE → TECHNIQUE → MEANING → SIGNIFICANCE

Start practising short-answer questions under timed conditions too. Students often underestimate how difficult it is to produce a concise, analytical response when the clock is running.

Test yourself.

And don't just reread your notes. Test yourself. Close the book and see what you can actually remember.

Don't just reread.

Read → Close the book → Recall → Check → Improve

Read → Close the book → Recall → Check → Improve

Most importantly, use this time to identify your weaknesses while you still have time to work on them.

CONSISTENCY

You don't need to spend hours studying every night.
